New in March: Knotwork Slippers in Pistachio Green and Ivory White

Busy, busy February is over! While my studies will be a bit easier for the next few weeks, other unexpected things have popped up, keeping my life a little too hectic for my liking, still... Fortunately, I have had enough time to prepare a few new things for the shop! With fresh new photos taken today, let me show you the two new colours available for slippers.

Mmm, an absolutely delicious pistachio green. I might have to make a pair for myself in this colour.

Oh so pretty in ivory white. Why haven't I made white slippers before? White ones are just so stylish. =)

These slippers are only available from my Etsy shop, along with many other colours! The white ones are already listed and the green ones will available be soon.

Knitting + Nerdery + Christmas = Awesome Ornaments

Most of November and December was spent completing orders and making Christmas gifts, but now that things have started to wind down for the year, I've had time to work on personal stuff. A friend of mine mentioned making knitted Christmas ornaments and I really liked the idea. The only problem was that the usual Christmas decor didn't seem right for Mr Morrgan and me. It didn't take long for a suitable idea to pop into my head, though. What better theme for a pair of long-time gaming nerds than old school gaming geekery!

Knitted Space Invaders christmas ornaments by Morrgan

The first imagery to come to mind was an old classic; the aliens from Space Invaders. It's as if these guys were designed to dance around in a circle in ornament form. And no, I'm not quite old enough to have played this back in the day, though I have some vague memories of having played a remake at some point.

A knitted Doom 2 cacodemon called Coco by Morrgan

Doom 2, however, I did play back when it came out. We didn't have a PC at home at the time, so I spent many, many school breaks playing it on one of the school computers. Ahh, fun times. Mr Morrgan played (and still plays) it way more than me though, and it was he who suggested I make this guy. He's called Coco the Cacodemon and he's a bit grumpy because I left out his ability to shoot lightning balls when I made him. Thought it'd be safer that way. Don't want a tree on fire for Christmas!

Next up will be another familiar floating face from Doom 2, the pain elemental, possibly a few of his lost soul buddies and finally a bit of D&D nerdery in the form of a Beholder. Then we'll have the most awesome tree in the neighbourhood!

(Note to self: need a tree.)

The year 2013 is about to end - a vacation is about to start

Well, we're a little over a week away from Christmas. This year has gone by fast. There's been a lot going on around here behind the scenes, such as me going back to university for a few more years' worth of studies. That has meant a lot of new routines and schedules to work out and get used to, which in turn has left (too) little time for my knitting and other related things.

It may be close to Christmas, but the weather is hardly winter-like yet. Sure, the ground is kinda white in this photo, but that stuff isn't really worthy of being called snow. Tsk.

Related things such as this blog! A mere, pathetic 18 posts this year, including this one. I suppose it's hard to post about new knitting when there's been very little new knitting to show off. I'm planning to change that next year, though! It's a bit early for New Year's resolutions, but now that I have these new routines (mostly) figured out, I can put more time into new designs. I have several pattern ideas I've been itching to try out!

As Christmas is getting close, it also means that Morrgan's Creatures will go on a little break as usual, starting Dec 19th. My Dawanda and Zibbet shops will be closed until early January. The Etsy shop will remain open but only for patterns, as they can be instantly downloaded. My patterns will also continue to be available from Ravelry and Craftsy. Any messages received during the break will be replied to after Morrgan's Creatures reopens in early January.

So, that's just a little FYI. This may or may not be the last post of the year, depending on how much time I have before the break. If this is indeed the last one, I just want to say thank you for the year 2013 to all my lovely customers! Thank you also to my readers, if you still exist with so little reading to do. ;)

See you again next year!

Happy Holidays!

Well, this is it. I'm officially taking the rest of the year off. All orders are completed and have been shipped off. My shops are now closed (except my Ravelry and Craftsy shops, where my patterns will continue to be available throughout the break). I've even finished a few knitted presents of my own as well. Time to take a deep breath, relax with some nice mulled wine and get into the spirit of the season.

For once I thought ahead and planned for the holiday rush, preparing what I could in advance and scheduling the rest to be as efficient and stress-free as possible. (I even had almost all gifts ready by November!) You know, I'm actually looking forward to Christmas and New Year's now. Coincidence? I think not. ;)

The year 2012 has been a really good one and not the least thanks to my lovely customers. A big thank you goes out to each and every one of you!

Happy Holidays!

New in October: Striped Fingerless Gloves

So, the autumn break is over and Morrgan is back in business! I have a whole bunch of new designs for this season that I can't wait to show you, starting with something for your hands.

I'm a big fan of my latest fingerless glove design. They're made with a current favourite yarn of mine, a soft and warm blend containing alpaca and wool. It's perfect for mitts like these, not to mention a joy to knit with. =)

These gloves also combine two other things I enjoy, both making and wearing: stripes and knitted, decorative surfaces. As always, they feature a separately knitted thumb for a snug and comfy fit.

These fingerless gloves are available in four different colours: green, magenta, grey and blue. I'll be listing them in my Etsy shop within the next week or so, so feel free to take a peek at those listings for more details!

More new stuff coming soon, including magnets and footwear!

(Also, travel photos.)

An Autumnal Break

Morrgan's Creatures is on a fall break! The Etsy and Dawanda shops will reopen at the end of October with many new exciting designs.

My patterns will continue to be available throughout the break in my Ravelry and Craftsy shops, so go take a peek there if you are overcome by the desire to knit a cute creature!

New in September: Knotwork fingerless gloves

purple fingerless gloves wrist warmers arm warmers

Just in time for the chilly days autumn, I bring you stylish handwear!

It's been a while since my shop last had gloves listed, but now they're here again! I promised new designs early this year and here's the first of them: knotwork fingerless gloves.

They feature the intricate cabled knotwork I so adore, both to look at and to make, originally inspired by Viking and Celtic knotwork. The darker pairs especially have something deliciously gothic about them. All in all, I'm very pleased with this style.

The design would look fantastic as a full pair of mittens as well - if you're interested in a pair, contact me via my Etsy shop!

I have more new fingerless gloves to show soon! I spent the summer sourcing lovely new yarns for handwear and have been knitting like a madwoman this past month or so. Stay tuned!

New in August

I got hit by inspiration and I've been knitting & crocheting my little fingers off these past few days, plus I've finished a whole bunch of items that were almost done. (You know, the kind that piles up with just a few ends to sew in or a little bit of assembly to do. For some reason I end up with a lot of those.)

Wanna see what's coming to my Etsy shop this month? I think this time I'll show some familiar designs, now in new exciting colours! Well, I certainly found the colours exciting to work with. =)

I went mad and bought a bunch of pink yarn. (Pink? Pink?? I never buy pink!) Something about these pink hues were completely irresistable, though, and I have to admit that this dark pink in particular makes a fine octopus.

Behold, an array of colourful monsters! Brand new colours for the good old monster scarves, still as soft and cuddly as ever.

These guys will show up in the shop during August, so keep an eye out for them!

And finally, to balance out some of this monstrous silliness, I bring you a sneak peek of something I'm working on right now. Something feather-light, ethereal and luxurious...

Time for a summer break!

Indeed, my Etsy shop will go on a break for a few weeks, starting tomorrow Saturday. If there's anything you've had your eye on, get it now or else you have to wait until the end of July!

My Ravelry shop will stay open though, to satisfy all your creature PDF pattern needs.

Happy summer everyone!

Happy New Year! And a SALE!

Hello hello and a very happy new year to anyone who might still be reading this blog. Perhaps I should make a resolution to blog more regularly this year. We shall see how that goes. For now though...

At Morrgan's Creatures, the year 2012 begins with a sale!

I am renewing the shop's selection and all fingerless gloves and arm warmers must go! Everything in that section of the Morrgan's Creatures shop is 40% off.

I'll be listing more gloves I have in store over the next few days, so do come back later if you don't see the perfect pair for you right now!

Happy Holidays

Well well, it's about that time of year again. Soon, most likely tomorrow morning Finn time, I'll close up the shops and take a break for Christmas and New Year's. I probably won't read emails and messages while the shops are closed and this is the last blog post of the year too.

So, this break includes pretty much all of the internet - I want to take time to recharge my batteries and spend time with family.

Happy holidays and see you again next year!

PS: Should you get an uncontrollable urge to knit a creature of mine during the holidays, my Ravelry pattern shop will stay open.

How long to make a sweater, I wonder

Mr Morrgan was complaining about having an insufficient amount of warm sweaters the other day. This jogged my memory and I remembered that he'd received a big pile of yarn as a Christmas present, together with the promise that I'd make a sweater out of it. That was 2 years ago. Oops.

It's about time he got his sweater, then! It'd be funny to wrap up the finished sweater as a gift this year. "Remember this?"

I'm about to finish the back, but I still need to remake the front and knit both sleeves. And there's, oh, 8 days until Christmas eve? This'll be interesting race against time. Wish me luck!

Black Friday and Cyber Monday SALE

Now here's something that doesn't happen every day. Or month. Or even year. It is...

*drum roll*

A SALE!

Use the coupon code BFCM2010 at the Morrgan's Creatures Etsy shop for 10% off all purchases from now until Nov 29th!

As Etsy recently unveiled its new coupon code feature and Black Friday/Cyber Monday was coming up, I couldn't resist trying it out. It's in fact only my 2nd sale ever, so this kind of opportunity doesn't come around very often!

I know, I know, it isn't Friday yet. The code won't be announced at the Etsy shop until tomorrow evening, but it's valid starting now and I wanted my dear blog readers and Twitter followers to hear it first!

My Creative Space: There Be Monsters

The knitting (and crocheting) of warm stuff for autumn and winter continues. This week it's mostly been dreadful monster scarves. Rawr.

Looks like I'm all out of that blue yarn, so those will be the last two of this colour and material. Grab 'em while you can! I'll keep an eye out for a replacement yarn, though, so similar monsters may appear in the future.

(For those who might be wondering about the never-ending sock project, they're still not done. After all that knitting, unraveling and knitting again, I needed a break from socks. Wild monsters seemed like a much nicer project.)

My Creative Space: Yarn trouble

This week I bring you a tale of woe, misery and broken dreams. And socks.

Remember the beige and green socks I'd just started on last week? Well, that project failed miserably.

It wasn't anything to do with the pattern or the knitting itself. One sock turned out just lovely, and the other was going well. And then I ran out of yarn. Yarn I'd bought about 5 years ago, so I can't get more of it now. Arrrrrgh.

beige and green knitted socks in progress
I undid the 2nd sock and started again, making the sock a bit smaller this time. And ran out of yarn again. I then undid the finished 1st sock and am currently making it in the smaller size too. Hopefully there will be enough left over from that to finish both socks, and all this yarn puzzling will result in two fine, albeit smaller than planned socks. Hopefully.

So that's the reason why these socks are still in the works this week.

(Well. That and the fact that I may have gotten myself addicted to Soulcalibur 4 and Borderlands, taking up most [er, all] of my time. Again.)

My Creative Space: Slippers and socks

Here's what I've been working on this week: knitted footwear for both men and women. It'll soon be the season for warm slippers and socks around here, alas.

New Creations for Fall - Scarves

The first new designs for fall/winter 2010 are now available in my shoppe!

There's a simple idea behind this design. I like wearing shawls as scarves, but often they aren't ideal for the job. The shawl might be too short to properly go around my neck. Or if it's long enough, it's also too big and bulky for comfortable wear.

Designed to combine the best qualities of a scarf and a shawl, my triangular scarves or mini shawls can be used as both - layered around the neck or keeping the shoulders and upper arms warm on chilly nights. The main body of the scarf is knitted in a pattern that looks beautiful on both sides - I love the effect, to be honest. I decorated the edges with cables, my favourite thing to knit.

I've made a number of these now, each a different colour. I also used several kinds of materials and made small changes to the pattern for many of them, making each a little different from the others. They will gradually show up in this section of my Etsy shop.

My Creative Space: Preparing for autumn

Yeah, I missed the Tuesday Finds this week, sorry about that. While I did get back on Tuesday, we arrived close to midnight, so I just collapsed in bed as soon as we got home.

But enough of that and on to what's brewing in my creative space this week, with a sneak peek of this autumn's winter wear! As I am at times physically incapable of letting the knitting needles rest even on holiday (needleless fingers = restless fingers = unhappy fingers), I made the bottom three during these past few internetless days. I have used an eclectic mix of lovely soft wools, bamboo and even a funky vintage cotton-acrylic blend, in all sorts of fun colours. Neutral, dramatic, colourful, sweet; there's pretty much something of everything.

None of these are completely finished yet, but once they are, they'll find their way into my little shoppe.

My Creative Space: Many tiny creatures

This week, my creative space was first filled with many, many tiny bits and pieces of creatures-to-be...

knitted and crocheted tiny animals in pieces
...which I then turned into the actual creatures - lots of magnetic animals, like bats, dinosaurs, kiwi birds, sharks and more.

knitted and crocheted tiny animal magnets
Phew! I must admit my right wrist actually hurt a bit after finishing all those.

red fingerless gloves or armwarmers with a braid design together with a red rose But that didn't deter me for long, because this week I also finished a pair of arm warmers in a beautiful deep burgundy red. I noticed that the yarn used was the exact same red as one of my little roses on the balcony, which inspired me to try a new style of photos. What do you think?
